What is Environmental Policy and Planning?

The major in Environmental Policy and Planning, is an environmental studies program based in the social sciences. It is designed to prepare students for a variety of challenging professions involving the planning, analysis, design, and administration of policies and programs dealing with the natural and human-made environment. This interdisciplinary major is also suitable preparation for further study in a wide range of graduate programs, including environmental studies, public policy, public administration, law, urban and regional planning, and related fields. Through this major, students develop knowledge and skills in planning and decision making, public policy, political and economic systems, and the environmental sciences, and acquire the analytic capacities for participation in those processes which will shape environmental quality in the future.

Internships and other opportunities for EPP students

Internships, special topics courses, and/or applied research projects are available for every student. Internships are especially encouraged. These are generally short-term positions with local governments or agencies (usually non-paid) where students carry out projects related to their academic interests and skills. In addition to obtaining valuable experience, students enhance their opportunities for future employment and graduate school.

Weinschenk to be published in “American Politics and Policy”

The London School of Economics’ Public Policy Group, regarded as one of the most influential university-based think tanks in the world, has again invited Political Scientist Aaron Weinschenk, a new assistant professor of Public and Environmental Affairs at UW-Green Bay, to write an article for their multi-disciplinary American Politics and Policy blog. In September, Weinschenk wrote an article on voter turnout in local elections for the London School. Weinschenk’s new article on the blog addresses the topic of civic duty. Weinschenk quoted in ‘Washington Post’

In early September, Assistant Prof. Aaron Weinschenk, Public and Environmental Affairs, wrote a blog post for the London School of Economics’ American Politics and Policy blog, which was based on his research on voter turnout in local elections. Weinschenk published in “State and Local Government Review”

Political scientist Aaron Weinschenk, a first-year assistant professor in Public and Environmental Affairs, recently had a peer-reviewed journal article accepted for publication in State and Local Government Review, which is one of the premier journals on state and local politics and policymaking. His article examines the causes and consequences of campaign spending in mayoral elections across the United States. The article will appear in the journal’s Volume 45, 2013 edition.
